Jen is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience as a mental health professional. She joined LifeCare Medical Center in January 2012. Jen received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Central Michigan University in 2000 and her Master of Science degree in Applied Child and Family Studies with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northern Illinois University in 2002. As a marriage and family therapist, she has been trained in evaluating a full range of mental and emotional disorders such as depression, anxiety, and other individual psychological problems. She uses an eclectic approach in therapy borrowing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and solution-focused therapy modalities, but she tailors treatment plans to the client’s needs. She has experience in, in-home/family-based services, on-call crisis evaluation, EAP/short-term counseling, and outpatient therapy with individuals, couples, and families. She has a special interest in parenting concerns, relationship issues (with individuals and couples), evaluating for ADHD, and working with adolescents and adults who present with anxiety. Working in a rural mental health setting has provided her with skills to treat a wide-variety of presenting mental health concerns. Jen likes to emphasize strengths and skills in therapy to help raise self-esteem and self-worth. She believes everyone has a unique story. She helps people identify and understand their own, often encouraging them to focus most on their current chapter, and helping them learn to be present and mindful of what matters most to them.
