LifeCare provides behavioral health (counseling and psychotherapy) services on an out-patient basis.

Behavioral health therapists perform assessments, diagnose emotional and mental disorders, and plan treatment. Follow-up care after inpatient hospital stays is also available.

Psychological testing is part of the assessment when appropriate, including gastric bypass (bariatric surgery) evaluations and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder evaluations. These services are available to individuals, families and couples.

Treated conditions include anxiety and depression, issues of past abuse or neglect, self-esteem, personality disorders, anger control, eating disorders, family problems with child behavior issues, relationship difficulties, substance abuse effects, domestic violence, custody issues, and pre- and post-divorce issues.

Services can be accessed through self-referral, physician referral or another agency referral.

  • Anna Stein
    Anna Stein Psy.D., LP

    Anna Stein, PsyD, LP, has worked for LifeCare Behavioral Health since January 2014. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College in Psychology, Women’s Studies, and Family Studies, and graduated from the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Eagan, MN in September 2013 with a PsyD in Clinical Psychology. Previously, Anna completed her internship at the Ramsey Country Mental Health Center; working primarily with adults diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illnesses. In this position she provided services in the Partial Hospitalization Program and for a weekly trauma group, as well as working with individual clients in psychotherapy and testing. In addition, her background includes mental health crisis work, social security disability evaluations, and college counseling center services. Anna has past experiences working with clients diagnosed with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, learning disorders, chronic mental health issues, personality disorders, self-injurious behaviors, people experiencing suicidal thoughts, substance abuse issues, behavioral issues, and individuals experiencing distress over life changes. Anna works with clients in the Roseau, Warroad, and Baudette offices; working with adults, children, and couples with a wide variety of presenting problems in individual therapy and psychological assessments. Psychological assessments include cognitive testing, memory testing, personality testing, parenting evaluations, bariatric evaluations, and pre-surgical evaluations.

  • Jen Galbraith
    Jen Galbraith MS, LMFT

    Jen is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience as a mental health professional.  She joined LifeCare Medical Center in January 2012. Jen received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Central Michigan University in 2000 and her Master of Science degree in Applied Child and Family Studies with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northern Illinois University in 2002. As a marriage and family therapist, she has been trained in evaluating a full range of mental and emotional disorders such as depression, anxiety, and other individual psychological problems. She uses an eclectic approach in therapy borrowing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and solution-focused therapy modalities, but she tailors treatment plans to the client’s needs.  She has experience in, in-home/family-based services, on-call crisis evaluation, EAP/short-term counseling, and outpatient therapy with individuals, couples, and families. She has a special interest in parenting concerns, relationship issues (with individuals and couples), evaluating for ADHD, and working with adolescents and adults who present with anxiety.  Working in a rural mental health setting has provided her with skills to treat a wide-variety of presenting mental health concerns. Jen likes to emphasize strengths and skills in therapy to help raise self-esteem and self-worth. She believes everyone has a unique story. She helps people identify and understand their own, often encouraging them to focus most on their current chapter, and helping them learn to be present and mindful of what matters most to them.

  • Renee Sandvik
    Renee Sandvik LCSW, LICSW

    Renee Sandvik, LICSW, is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the Behavioral Health Department since March 2020. Renee previously worked for LifeCare Medical Center from April 2013 to July 2015 and returned to provide therapy services to clients. She is certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Refocusing) therapy which is beneficial to clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, addiction and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Renee also previously worked as a licensed drug and alcohol (addiction) counselor in North Dakota, specializing in providing mental health counseling for clients who are dually diagnosed with mental health and addiction issues. She has been providing counseling services for a total of 17 years within the Fargo/Moorhead area and the Roseau/Warroad/Baudette areas. Her work experience also includes providing therapy services to clients in various levels of care including outpatient, inpatient, and residential treatment settings including 6 years of consult liaison services at the three Sanford hospital sites within Fargo, ND. Renee currently provides therapy services for children, adolescents, adults and elderly populations addressing issues related to mood disorders, life transitions, trauma, addiction/alcoholism, relationships, couples and family counseling, life stress related to financial, employment, relationships, health or other issues, grief/loss, family concerns, and parenting issues. Renee has both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Social Work form the University of North Dakota, as well as minors in Psychology and Chemical Use and Abuse. Following obtaining her master’s degree, Renee has worked as an Adjunct Professor instructing both undergraduate and graduate students in the Social Work Departments at the University of North Dakota and Minnesota State University-Moorhead. She is passionate about providing support and education to clients in efforts to improve their mental health and overall wellbeing as they deal with life events and transitions. Specialty areas include EMDR, trauma, addiction and mood disorders. Renee will be seeing clients in the Roseau, Warroad and Baudette offices.
