Becoming an EMT
Have you ever thought about becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and helping your community?
LifeCare relies on a mix of dedicated full-time, part-time, and volunteer EMTs as the backbone of our ambulance staffing.
LifeCare Medical Center and LifeCare EMS Education are planning to hold a hybrid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course starting on September 4th running until just before Christmas. The course will involve online instructional assignments paired with weekly skills and review sessions on Wednesday evenings in Badger. (However, depending on class size, different dates/locations may need to be considered.) Students will also be required to complete clinical experience time in both the LifeCare ER and on one of LifeCare’s ambulances, for which students will need to complete and pass a background check. Additionally, there will be online tests scheduled that would need to be completed at LifeCare in Roseau. Attendance at all session is required to meet the state-mandated number of hours, but make-up/additional practice sessions will also be held once a month on Saturdays to try to accommodate occasional schedule issues.
Those successfully completing the program would be eligible to apply for licensure as an EMT after passing both the required State of Minnesota practical skills exam and the National Registry of EMTs knowledge exam. While LifeCare does frequently hire EMTs on both a full-time and casual basis, completing the program does not guarantee employment.
This course will cost $975 which will include required books and online materials, a student uniform T-shirt to be worn during clinical and field shifts, and the cost of the practical exam conducted at LifeCare at the end of the program. Students will be required to have access to a computer or tablet to complete the online portion of the program.
